Teach me that digi technique blog hop – sketches

Hi
Welcome to the Teach me that digi technique blog hop!
.
This is gonna be a fun hop everyone because we have a little bit of
everything for you!  Lissa at http://somanycrafts.com/2012/10/14/teach-me-that-digi-technique-blog-hop/ gathered a group of bloggersfor a week long hop just for
you to learn those little things that you have always wanted to know but
didn’t know how to do.

Since we didn’t want to bog you down with a
full day of tutorials, we have broken this up into a week long hop.
So if you’re starting here be sure to go back to the start.
Lissa’s tutorial is creating your own graphics, how
to make a blog button. You can read her post here: http://somanycrafts.com/2012/10/14/teach-me-that-digi-technique-blog-hop/

Jennifer McLean on Monday the 15th & Tuesday the 16th at http://www.justaddwatersilly.com
How to write the code to apply it to your blog,  Jennifer has an
extensive post so we are giving you two days to be able to go through
it, and learn, she has two post as well so you can follow along without
being overwhelmed.  We know how busy mom’s are and would love to have
you come back to learn how to apply that code to your blog. http://www.justaddwatersilly.com/2012/10/teach-me-that-digi-technique-blog-hop.html

Now you’re here at my post:

I make sketches for my sketch challenge group. I’ve used a couple of different methods to create sketches – and I’m going to share my favorites with you.

My all time favorite method is using my Silhouette Design Studio software. It is so easy – I just select the shapes I want, layer them appropriately, and when the sketch is to my liking, I zoom in on the sketch, turn off the grid lines and use the cool screenshot feature on my Mac to save it:

Command-Shift-4, then select an area: Take a screenshot of an area and save it as a file on the desktop

This gives me a file I can upload to my blog, to Facebook, or email.

Here’s a sketch I created this way:

My on-the-go solution, when inspiration hits when I’m not by my computer is an iPad app called doodle buddy. I like this app the best because it has templates for shapes like circles and squares (I’ll admit I can’t draw freehand and it drives me nuts if they look goofy). That’s why it’s my favorite… It’s also extremely user friendly (I find graphic software confusing so that says a lot)

So here’s me creating a sketch. I apologize for the shaky camera. I held my iPhone with one hand as I did the ketch with the other hand.

I hope you learned something! If you’d like to be involved in my sketch challenges be sure to leave a comment.

What’s on your desk – Berni Cuttino

Today’s post is from Design Team (DT) member Berni Cuttino of: http://berni46.blogspot.com
Her full post can be seen here:  http://berni46.blogspot.com/2012/10/crafty-card-gallery.html
The challenge for the DT this month was:

“What’s on Your Desk”… meaning no going out and buying just the right thing….
Go find something from your stash that you haven’t used in a while
(tool/stamp/or even paper/stickers); use some item that’s sitting on
your craft space (if you can find anything, I know mine is a mess)…

Here’s Berni’s take:

My desk was a mess until, I had to
clean up, because they were cleaning my carpets in the craft room. What was
on my desk, were all kind of cut outs, to make a card. I have been trying to put
this card together for months. so here it is.

Be sure to keep coming back this month to see all of the fabulous cards by the design team!  Great Job Berni!

Here’s Nancy’s take:

On my desk was…the yellow DP, the two different styles of Dies from My favorite Things, the sparkly stars and the ribbon.

Every
couple of weeks I go through my papers and get out the ones that I have
had for so long and never used…you know the ones gathering dust.  I
feel that if they are in plain site they might spark some creativity and
finally get a paper cutter taken to them.  And that is how this card
came to be.
Not
sure if you can tell but I covered the black paper with black balloons
for something subtle in the background…. but then covered up so many of
them….lol
Thanks so so much!
Nancy

Vinyl Challenge

Welcome to the Vinyl Challenge!
If you’ve been following my blog, you know that I have a fabulous group of ladies who have been making cards based on the challenge envelopes I send them.  Some of these envelopes have been extremely challenging but they’re always up for the challenge.

This months challenge was Vinyl.  Dustin, from http://www.myhobbyvinyl.com/ kindly sponsored this challenge, sending me a big box of vinyl to mail out to the participants.  If they have a blog address next to their name, please go visit their blog as they will have a post as well.

So with no further ado, I will show you their creations!!!

I ran out of time with this challenge but I have to say the Vinyl was very good quality and easy to use – and the coolest part – I made a label for a jar – I wrote on it with a white pencil & I was able to erase!

I hope this inspired you to try vinyl!  If so, please post your creations on facebook at crafty card gallery or comment with a link to your post.
