Mom’s Birthday Card, done 3 ways

Happy Sunday!
If you’ve been following along, you know that I’ve had some issues with my Mom’s birthday card.  Well, today is the big reveal.  She’s been teasing me about not getting the card, but yesterday she got it & she agreed it was worth the wait…

So here’s the back story – my parents have a family of hummingbirds that love to hang out in their backyard – it’s like the hummingbirds are there all the time.  So when I went into my local stamp store & saw this stamp I knew I had to get it to make my Mom’s birthday card (which was good, since I was stuck on the idea I did have for her).

Well, I decided to use my SU! Watercolor pencils and a blender pen for the first version.  I wasn’t happy with the coloring; it looked to crayon-y and the colors just weren’t right.

So I took a copic marker class & bought the pens to make the card (if you haven’t figured it out, this turns out to be an expensive card!) and I redid it.

But I somehow neglected to pay attention to one important note that they told us in the class… You have to use Memento ink with your copics; otherwise the ink smears…. If you look at the picture above you can see smearing at the borders….   So, you guessed it, I still wasn’t happy…

So I went back to the store (with my Mom, this time) and bought the Memento ink… and tried it for a third time…  I also added some Spica (sparkly Copic pen) to the hummingbird….

Finally!  It was exactly how I wanted it to look (not as happy with the bow, though)…  My Mom really liked the card & I was much happier with the way it looked!

Other details of the card; used white gel pen to do fake stitching (yes, I used a ruler to make it straight) and glitter paper (I think it’s America’s best brand), and I think I got the page pearls at Micheals (not sure) and I had the ribbon already…

So here’s a picture of all the stamped images together to compare:

I think the differences are really noticeable if you see all of them together…
I hope it was worth the wait!

Well, I definitely learned a lot making this card!!!
And making my Mom happy = priceless!  Happy Birthday Mom!  Have an awesome year!  (even if your card is late!)  You rock!
Have a great rest of your weekend!  Thanks for stopping by!
Jennifer

Welcome to the Motions & Folds Card Hop! 2/26

Happy Saturday!

I’m super excited to be in the Motions & Folds Card Hop sponsored by my friend Ellen at http://www.cardmonkey-business.blogspot.com/  (Thanks Ellen!)
I’m looking forward to seeing some great card ideas & inspiration on how to incorporate motions and folds into my cards to make them interactive and extra-special.

Ellen at http://www.cardmonkey-business.blogspot.com/ is the first stop in the hop; so if you came here to hop from Kacee at http://www.youhadmeatscrap.blogspot.com/, you’re in the right place.  If you were coming to my blog just to visit, grab your favorite drink and hop along with us! There are 15 great bloggers in today’s hop.

So my card is inspired by a card I saw on someone’s desk.  I’ve been pretty busy the last two weeks at work & have had to go to the 4th floor several times.  Well, someone has a foldy card with pictures of people on the card on her desk.  It’s a card from a company (like a sales card) but it’s really cool looking.  So that card is where I got the idea….

So here’s the card:

 top view

 side view

So, this card was made using 12*24 paper that I think came from Oh My Crafts.  I folded a piece every 2″ using my scor-pal & then folded the last section at 6″ (so it would fold over to hold itself up).  Then I cut it in half so that I ended up with two cards that were 6″ each!  This way it will fit in a 6″x6″ envelope!!!

I cut everything with my gypsy – as you can see, I cut my paper to fit the mat…  then of course I added google eyes to the cat…. and some white pen stitching.  The cat moves as does the pinwheel (i did that one myself, no cricut)….  I used some bling on the happy birthday sign and used some of the ultra fine glitter on the balloons and cake frosting, and used some pearls on the cake.

Back of the cat (so you can see how it moves side to side)

Here’s a short video of the card motion…  I’ve got folds and motion!!!

And of course I have blog candy!!!

Last day of the Friendship Blog Hop 2/19-2/21

Hi!
Welcome to the Friendship Blog Hop! This is the last post…. I figured since I had the day off probably some other people did too & they might want to hop!  So thanks for stopping by!

Crafty Card Gallery is the first stop in the hop; so if you came here to hop, you’re in the right place.  If you were coming to my blog just to visit, grab your favorite drink and hop along with us!
There are 26 awesome stops for you this weekend; all will be showcasing cards with a friendship theme – get well, thinking of you, thanks for being a friend, etc.  We often don’t take the opportunity to tell our friends or others what they mean to us; this is a good opportunity to do so…
So here’s my card:
Today is my parents 42nd wedding anniversary;CORRECTION – 43 Years! (oops!) so todays card is a Happy Anniversary Card.  I don’t know about you but I never send anyone Happy Anniversary cards; and I think that would be a nice card to receive from a friend.
My mom’s birthday was yesterday, but I can’t post the card until she gets it; so I’ll post a before & after (I redid the card) for you next week….. something to look forward to! 🙂
I will say, after taking all these pictures this weekend, I think I’m going to take advantage of one of the sales & pick up an OTT light.  I’m not happy with the light in the pictures….

So you can see the dimension

And if you didn’t already see the other two posts for this weekend, here they are:

The inside

For those of you that follow on Facebook know I recently took a Copic Marker class… I wanted to play with my new toys & stumbled upon this website  Copic Marker Scrapbooking and their design team call.  I loved the image & decided to try, even though I’m a beginner at Copics…
This also qualifies for

Stampin’ Royalty Challenge #59, my second challenge (since the card below was entered into a challenge too!)

I could totally see giving this card to a girl friend after a break up or other guy troubles….  I love the frog!!!
So it’s colored with Copics, and background is glitter paper and SEI paper with some gems, stickles on the crown & pen stitching.
If you didn’t come by on Saturday, here’s the first card I posted:
Inside of the card:
All Cricut Cuts are from Create A Critter.  The pattern paper is SEI and the other paper is just paper I had.  I recommend using Best glitter cardstock; it cuts better than the paper I used…  And of course, liberal pen stitching with a white gel pen.  This is a really easy card – just cut, use the pen, add a few gems and assemble.  I made 4 of these for my card swap today and they were pretty quick!
I love the insides that look cute too!  Especially since I usually don’t write too much!
And of course I have blog candy!!!
